I believe in a collaborative approach to patient care with shared decision making. This starts with listening carefully to my patient’s symptoms and concerns to better understand their medical condition. I strive to educate my patients regarding their diagnosis and provide them with a thorough understanding of the available treatment options. I hope to select a treatment plan with patient input that will deliver the best possible clinical outcomes by taking into consideration their health care goals and lifestyle. It is my privilege to be part of your health care team.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Ung specializes in the treatment of nasal and sinus disorders with particular interest in chronic sinusitis, nasal polyposis and nasal obstruction. As the only fellowship trained sinus surgeon practicing exclusively in DuPage County, he has exceptional expertise in endoscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat chronic sinonasal conditions. Dr. Ung critically evaluates new technology and endeavors to bring the latest tools and techniques to the communities he serves. He was the first in DuPage County to perform balloon sinuplasty, place Propel steroid eluting stents during sinus surgery and implant Sinuva for patients with nasal polyposis. He has extensive experience in computer assisted, image guided surgery and powered instrumentation. Dr. Ung continuously seeks to expand his knowledge base through additional courses and training programs. Dr. Ung understands the suffering that people with nasal and sinus disease experience and knows relief of these symptoms can bring dramatic improvement to their quality of life. He strives to educate patients regarding their disease process and potential treatment options so they may understand the goals of therapy and have realistic expectations of outcomes. Through this dialogue, Dr. Ung hopes his patients play an integral role in the decision making process regarding their treatment, whether medical or surgical. Dr. Ung graduated magna cum laude with highest honors from Harvard University. He went on to earn a medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis while also garnering a research fellowship from Harvard Medical School. After an internship in General Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Ung completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He then finished an intensive, specialized fellowship in Rhinology and Sinus Disease at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Following his fellowship, he practiced for several years as an attending physician at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. As part of his duties there, he lectured at Harvard Medical School and was involved with medical student and resident education. Included in his honors is a teaching award from Harvard University. The results of his research have been presented at national and regional meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.
